New Moon in Taurus: Cultivating Stability

Today we have a New Moon in the fixed earth sign of Taurus. The sign of the Bull at its best is a grounding, stabilizing influence. Wherever Taurus is in our chart is where we are called to firm up structures.

Build. Cultivate wealth of all types. Feeling deprived? Start to notice where you’re on shaky ground. Where do you need shoring up? We honor the New Moon by taking responsibility for bringing more stability into our life for the next 28-day cycle. We are giving ourselves a platform, a foundation for the next phase of growth.

Taurus is where we pull in our resources from deep in the earth, saving them for a later harvest. We gather strength, power, and hold our center. We don’t always need to spend the money just because it's in the account; we don't always need to disperse the goods or energy prematurely. We can discipline ourselves and harness the potential.

Do you have a ground to lean into when the outside world comes pounding in? Find a center, the still-point within. We all must find it, a place inside ourselves that is solid as a rock, stable and protected. Know what you need that is fixed, consistent and provide it for yourself. Seeing it manifest on an external level can take a while. There’s no rush here; Taurus has time. Buying a home, deciding on a professional track, having children, investing in a business venture, committing to a partner. Gather the facts, sit quietly (stubborn like the Bull), and wait til it’s right. Carefully consider the environment and deliberate. Once you decide to move forward, you can be sure it will be a good move.

Peace of Mind

At this New Moon in Taurus, we can ask ourselves, what gives us serenity, true peace of mind? What helps us feel serene, what helps us have a harmonious relationship with ourselves, our partners, the earth, the world? It is worth it to invest swaths of time and energy toward building that foundation, that inner ground.

The Buddha – born under the sign of Taurus – exhibited this in his “earth touching gesture.” “Let the Earth be my witness,” said Gautama the Buddha, affirming that no distractions – Mara’s dancing daughters of temptation – could seduce him away from steadfast stability. He had mastered unwavering peace of mind.

Red Flags Waving: Mercury Retrograde, Mars opposite Saturn

“By yielding, you may obtain victory.” ~ Ovid

Mars in Gemini opposes Saturn in Sagittarius at this New Moon, testing our inner peace. We may experience a confrontation between idea-manic Mars in Gemini charging forth with words and counterpoints, and stodgy Saturn demanding respect for well-earned wisdom and big-picture understanding. This may also be heightened during Mercury Retrograde in Gemini (May 18 to June 11), which can tend to be argumentative.

Mercury Retrograde means double-checking the communication wiring in our speaking, listening, and information distribution, especially since Mercury will be its own ruler sign of buzzy Gemini. What we say and what we write may be called to question. Complications, snafus, challenges are bound to come down the pipeline. We can be sure some will be seeing red. It could be the IRS waving its red pen. A barking dog, a persnickety roommate, a gnarly neighbor, a grumpy partner. But if we have cultivated our stability, our inner and outer security, we will be thrown off-kilter and caught off-guard much less.

Once provoked, the energy of Taurus can be unstoppable, a veritable Raging Bull. It can take an incredible amount of self-awareness to restrain oneself when taunted. “Toro! Toro!” shouts life, egging us on to charge and fight. Forewarned is forearmed. Remember our “peace of mind” commitment, and back down when the opponent attacks. Sometimes, it is simply best to yield. Or at least wait until the dust settles.

With our astrological wisdom, we can sidestep the impulsive behavior of others and ourselves. We can temper our reaction. With forbearance and longevity in mind, we can build a strong future for ourselves. Keep calm and rest on that ever-reliable inner ground.

Spiritual Guidance with Erin Reese

Standing at a crossroads?
Need a guide?

Erin Reese

Spiritual Consulting with Erin Reese

Did you know that I offer spiritual consulting package options for clients desiring a deeper dive? This is an incredibly affordable option for those who wish to check in and receive support on a regular basis.

How does it work?
I offer spiritual counseling combined with regular intuitive readings on an ongoing basis. I meet with clients on a weekly or biweekly basis to check in on any professional or personal issues they are working with. We go as deep as you need. Some clients are working through relationship challenges, some need energy clearing to remove blocks in awareness. Some are learning to heal from reactive trauma in which I give them tools and we discuss the progress. Some clients need systemic constellation work to clear ancestral blocks in the family system. Some prefer more free association and personal or business coaching. Last but not least, some clients seek support with embodied spiritual awakening and deepening into the Self. Most clients request a look at the Tarot or their astrology chart for a short or long reading at some point in the session - a very good tool. In short, you bring to the table whatever you want to work through, and together we will find the tool to address it.

How much does it cost?
I offer one-time sessions at my normal rate of $125 per hour or $75 per half-hour, but by far the most affordable solution is to commit to a series of 4 sessions at only $350 which is just over $85/hr. I work with my clients via phone or Skype. I also allow any follow-up questions via email in between calls, if needed, to touch in on anything we are working with. You have my support. It's a great tool for folks that don't feel the call to traditional therapy or coaching but do want to go deeper and build trust with one person in a counseling fashion. And, of course, you have the added benefit of psychic readings as needed to go with it.

What is your background?
In addition to 25 years of experience with astrology and the tarot, I am also an author and spiritual travel writer. I have training in transpersonal psychology, yoga and meditation, somatic therapies, recovery, and alternative healing. I have a strong business background, having worked as a corporate recruiter, website producer, and editorial consultant. I have undertaken long periods of spiritual pilgrimages and travel in Asia and Europe, along with five years living in India and studying with a spiritual teacher. My innate psychic ability has been inherited from the women in my ancestry and has been highly activated through spontaneous awakening of the Kundalini life force. I offer my work to clients all over the world in the spirit of service and healing.

For those who like credentials, here are a few other bits of training you might find interesting:

° Coaches Training Institute, Professional Life Coaching, San Rafael
° Sofia University (formerly Institute of Transpersonal Psychology), Palo Alto
° Certified Yoga Instructor. SVYASA Yoga University, Bangalore, India
° Systemic Constellation Training, Germany and United States
° Bachelors of Science, Highest Honors, University of California
° Masters of Science in Counseling (in progress), California State University

If you'd like referrals, please let me know. I have several ongoing clients that have offered to answer any questions from you as a reference for my work. You will know if you feel called to work with me.

How do I get started?
Please email me at erin@erinreese.com to set up an appointment time. Indicate whether you prefer phone or Skype appointments, and indicate a few options and times, Monday through Friday, that would work with your schedule on a weekly or biweekly basis. Payment can be made in advance or at the time of the first scheduled appointment via PayPal or with a bank card or check, your choice. We will find the best option for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
I look forward to supporting you on your journey!

With love,
Erin Reese

Full Moon in Scorpio: Facing Death

The fear of death follows from the fear of life.
A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
 - Mark Twain

This week and beyond, we are under the impact of the recent Full Moon in Scorpio, fixed water sign of transformation and rebirth. Scorpio is always intense; this sign implores us to go deeper, and then plunge even further, down to the bone. The springtime Sun is happily chirping and singing in the opposite sign of Taurus. And we are confronted with the paradox of living life to its fullest while experiencing a part of ourselves that is passing away.

It is appropriate that I write this from Berlin, a Scorpio metropolis with its city charter signed on October 28, 1237. Anyone with a smidgen of history under their belt knows that Berlin has faced its share of darker days over the years, especially during the 20th century.

But it hasn’t always been horrific Walls, Reichstags and Kristallnachts. Seductive Berlin is comfortable in its own skin, embraces counter-culture, art, sex, grit, and brings us closer to the marrow of existence. That’s its appeal. Like Scorpio, the city transforms herself over the centuries. The Wall went up, the Wall came down, and Berlin keeps on turning poison into nectar by facing the shadow head-on.

Psyche, Berlin Alte Nationalgallerie
This is the tone of the Full Moon in Scorpio, when Luna pushes our experience to the quick. We can’t ignore our most intense emotions – they’re rising like flood waters. We feel the pain, and investigate. Find out what is underneath. Eventually, it will give way, and therein lies pure energy – light and dark and truth and awe and agape.  Ashes to ashes, we see the life that shines through in death. Only by staring death in the face, and not turning away, can we truly live. We are transformed through Scorpio, a phoenix emerging from the ruins. It is thorough. There are no half measures here. Scorpio redoes the whole kit and caboodle.

Death – the point of no return – is what truly plunges us into the Now. We undertake an entire renovation project of our house, from the ground up. A friend commits suicide and we are shocked into the Present. Extreme moments of life occur side by side. A relative has a beautiful new baby boy at the same time you discover another family member has cancer. At that moment, these people become more real to you – hyper-real. Your lover is moving abroad – they have a job they can’t pass up. Until then, you must have more physical contact, more sex, more touch. Every moment spent together becomes critical. Life and death.

If we want to be fully free, truly alive, we face the fact that it won’t last. Nothing does. We have only the Now to love, to laugh, to dance, to cry. To hold our beloved’s face in our hands, gazing at them, really seeing them. How long has it been since you’ve looked – really looked – into each other’s eyes? Are you seeing a projection of who you want them to be? If you see them for who they are, as they are, you’re bound to fall in love with them even more.

In order to truly live, we must know Death. Scorpio teaches through the realization of impermanence and the profundity of irreversible transformation. We exist in the space between. In this breath, we are here. In this moment, we are alive.
