Full Moon in Capricorn: The Self-Care Imperative

Paige Bradley, Expansion
Tomorrow, July 19, is the Full Moon in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn, the Sea Goat. Capricorn urges us to strive up the mountain, and build structures of lasting value. Meanwhile, the Sun is finishing up her healing sojourn through Cancer, the self-care maven. As it has been for the past month, it’s vital to tend carefully to ourselves – bodies and hearts and souls. Cancer represents the need to give and receive emotional warmth and security. That sounds great, cozy, and lovey-dovey, but guess what – there’s a fly in the ointment.

The stress pummeling the planet is obvious. The Sun and Full Moon are forming a T-square, a difficult angle with Uranus in Aries who brings in many of the upsetting, awakening transpersonal events of our generation. Many folks have felt deeply disrupted by current global headlines; yet some of us don’t need to venture to the nightly news to tune in. Many healers and sensitives feel the impact in their physicality, their psyches, dreams, nervous systems, and musculatures as a way of directly empathizing with the world. If you are one of these persons with a highly attuned frequency, you may be working through physical pain, illness, upset as a form of limbic resonance with the planet.

So, what do we ‘do’ when we experience such extreme or jarring responses? Know that it is not important to know specifically who, or what, you are resonating with. However, it is important to get serious and pragmatic (Moon in Capricorn) about addressing the issue as it presents itself in your body-mind-spirit.

Outgrown the Known

The individual and the collective consciousness on all levels – physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional – has outgrown the known, that old Cancerian crab shell. We must take profoundly good care of ourselves while the new structure takes form.

Imagine a little crab who has grown out of her shell, running around naked on the beach, burrowing in the sand and hiding from seagulls and shorebirds until her protective construct has developed a bit more. It is a cautionary time. This doesn’t mean that we don’t keep showing up to our lives, work, families, relationships and responsibilities; we just have to put MORE energy toward our sensitive parts, and our tender hearts, while interior and exterior circumstances take new shape.

Cancer Sun is about feeling EVERYTHING, completely and intensely. Take precautions so as not to burn out. Maintain healthy boundaries, not as a way of shutting down your heart, but to manage the sensory overload. If you’ve had enough INPUT – whether it be time with relatives, on the computer, in the office, watching or even reading the news – pay attention! Your Soul is trying to tell you something. Feeling cramped in the body, tight in the shoulders and neck? Having trouble sleeping, or staying asleep? Are you irritable, cranky, perhaps even seething with anger? These are all signs that you’ve forgotten the imperative: invest in your own healing.

Surround yourself with a healthy support system, and be discrete where necessary. Try not to divulge your most vulnerable self to those who may judge or push. If the external world is forcing demands and commands, take it as a sign that you could use an even stronger dose of self-love and acceptance. Be even gentler with yourself than you thought necessary; you will see how this, paradoxically, will immediately improve your personal and professional interactions, physical wellness, and mental peace.

Only in growth, reform, and change,
paradoxically enough,
is true security to be found.
~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh (author, aviatrix, Cancer Sun)

New growth can be painful, and change can be downright scary, especially when you’d finally gotten yourself comfortable and things were truckin’ along nicely. Then, Life throws a curve ball and forces us to build a whole new structure. Take a deep breath. Go slow, take your time. But do go forward. Evolution would not be nudging you in this direction if it weren’t in your highest and best interests. Practice the self-care imperative. We need you in excellent shape.
