New Moon in Aries: Personally Empowered

Georgia O'Keeffe
Today we have a New Moon in the cardinal fire sign of Aries. The competitive, driven, and willful tone of “Just Do It!” Aries urges us to get going NOW on new projects. We are spurred to initiate fresh ventures and embark on journeys of great significance. Something new wants to burst forth in our life; most of us already know what that “Something” is, for it’s been rumbling under the surface for several months.

It is like the little underground seed that has been nourished by Mother Earth is finally ready to break through the soil and get on with the sprouting! The thing is, we need to find new sources of energy as the old ways of pushing are unlikely to work. To locate our super power-pack reserves, we look to Aries’ ruler, the action and drive planet Mars. Until May 12, Mars is in the methodical, strong-as-an-ox, deliberate sign of Taurus the Bull. Mercury, our communication and movement planet, is also in steady-as-she-goes Taurus until May 1.

Clearly, we are not going to bolt up this mountain the old Aries-Ram way. It’s not a sprint; it is a steady-paced hike toward the finish line. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare. Step by step, sometimes slower than we would like, we will achieve our goals this spring. This may be a challenge to remember, but it is important. Otherwise, we risk physical illness or injury. Things like internal organ flare-ups and back muscle spasms are signs that we’re pushing the river.

PERSONALLY EMPOWERED

Sun and New Moon in impatient, achievement oriented Aries are urging us to keep our eyes on the prize, and go for the mighty goal that makes us quiver in our boots.  Aries provides us a phenomenal amount of courage. Aries hates boredom and stagnation, turning to adventure, risk, and change to keep life perpetually interesting. You know you need to make that move, take that leap, quit that job, start that project – and even if you’re spooked, you know the adrenalin rush will carry you through. If you have doubts because facing the unknown is just plain scary, take comfort in one of my favorite quotes from the great artist Georgia O’Keeffe, who said,

“I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing that I wanted to do.”

That’s the way! So tap into your courage reserves, inhale a big breath of life-giving oxygen, and start climbing, steady as she goes. At this New Moon in Aries, bolstered by the raw strength, sustainable pace, and unwavering commitment of Mars and Mercury in grounded Taurus, you really can move those mountains.
Love and courage,
Erin Reese

Full Moon in Libra: You, Me, and We

Today we have a total Full Moon lunar eclipse in the relationship-oriented sign of Libra. It is a time of renewing the contracts that we hold between self and other. Such ‘contracts’ are agreements, spoken or unspoken, conscious or unconscious. This cardinal sign eclipse highlights the crescendo of the recent Pluto-Uranus square by calling for more fine-tuning, adjustments, and evolutionary change. We are catapulted into a new perspective in our core relationships.

Venus-ruled Libra, sign of “We Are,” naturally urges us toward more harmony and balance in our interactions. But in order to have peace, love, and understanding with our partners, friends, co-workers or family members, we must first realize congruence in our relationship with the Self.

The Sun shines brightly now in Aries, sign of the “I Am” principle, over this weekend of rebirth. The celebrations of Passover and Easter honor divine resurrection, compassion, and unconditional acceptance aka love. Besides the traditional holiday of Easter, we may find inspiration in the pagan Ostara, Germanic goddess of the radiant dawn. Ostara is described by 19th century scholar Jacob Grimm as “of upspringing light, a spectacle that brings joy and blessing, whose meaning could be easily adapted by the resurrection-day of the Christian's God. Bonfires were lighted at Easter and according to popular belief of long standing, the moment the sun rises on Easter Sunday morning, he gives three joyful leaps, he dances for joy…”

How do we honor the Sun rising strong, the ‘I Am’ factor in ultimate glory, while maintaining Libran poise, grace, and balance? Resonant harmony with the other person is icing on the cake, but the real sustenance is found within. We rest in What Is. There can be no lasting peace found by seeking it in the behavior and personality of an Other; it is realized as a unified relationship with our own Existence, the Ground of Being, seated in the Self.

The eclipse aspect of this lunation tells us that something – or someone – significant may be karmically plucked from our lives, or that some new ingredient may be added in by surprise. Personally, I have come to enjoy eclipses and the changes they bring. They signify the “hand of God,” Grace, or Nature moving us around the chessboard of Life. We are pieces picked up and moved to a new stance. The players fall where they may, and we suddenly have a completely new perspective. All of this occurs seemingly out of our hands – a fresh attribute, a new challenge or alliance appears. The game is changed.

With the Sun in Aries conjunct unpredictable, radical, liberation-loving Uranus at this eclipse, there is bound to be a pull toward independence wherever one feels inhibited. In his solar showdown with the partner-oriented Moon in Libra, Sun in Aries goes for exactly what he needs for freedom and will assert him/herself to get it. In renewing our contracts, we will have to accept that we win some, we lose some. In this relationship, there are three: You, Me, and We.
