Full Moon in Taurus: Move the Body

On Tuesday, October 27, we welcome the Full Moon in the fixed earth sign of Taurus, the Bull. This Full Moon is all about honoring the physical, sensual side of life - visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, and most definitely gustatory (taste). It is through acknowledging our animal nature, and allowing the body to move, stretch and assimilate, that we encourage wellness and healing at this time of year.

"You were wild once. Don't let them tame you."
~ Isadora Duncan

Honoring the Body

It's time to move, lest we stagnate. The transiting Sun in Scorpio is just getting started in his autumnal sojourn. Scorpio, sign of rebirth, coaxes us to get real and face all the old garbage that needs to be acknowledged and cleaned out of our lives, our psyches, our systems. We'll do well to assure that attention is brought back to the body in order to integrate and process information.

Most of us are in the process of digesting a lot of evolutionary learning and hard work of late. This is serious business, folks. If we don’t release, we can expect stagnation and putrefaction in mind or body. So it’s best to take note of this and stretch, express and move.

Here are a few possible movement tips, depending on your personal taste. Do whatever appeals!
  • Get a massage – schedule it, or it might not happen. This is a great way to move the lymphatic system and release endorphins.
  • Receive an acupuncture session. Many communities these days have sliding scale acupuncture clinics; very affordable.
  • Dance - freely! Think authentic movement, Five Rhythms, ecstatic, Isadora Duncan, and creative improvisation. Move like an animal.
  • Try bouncing or shaking for five, ten, fifteen minutes at a time. Chi gung, yoga, and other movement modes are great, too - but the bouncing and shaking really get the lymph moving. I like the Osho Kundalini Meditation for a great way to move out toxic emotions and stuck energy. Click here for a description and free audio download. Try it in your living room.
  • Go on a walk or hike - frequently. The colors of the season don’t get much better than this. And, oh, the air! The fall air! Intoxicating.
  • Enjoy your lover, take a lover. Or enjoy a hot tub, take a bath.
  • Go to lunch or dinner with a dear friend you haven’t seen for a while. Splurge. Eat the tiramisu, order the garlic fries. Remember, Taurus is about PLEASURE. You can move it off later. Smile.

Head Work Requires Body Work

We still have a lot of busy-bee planets in Virgo buzzing through the skies now – a diligent stellium of Jupiter, Mars, and Venus all with their sleeves rolled up. Many if not most of us have been working very hard these days, ultra-focused in some area of our lives whether that be jobs, families, or self-improvement. This Virgo trinity is a great influence for productivity and focus but we also must take time to come back to our primal selves, and heed our wild spirit.

Take a break and determinedly back away from the computer, desk, phone, work bench. Use the body as an release valve for that sizzling brain. Don’t skimp on exercise and regular movement! Even if we’re busy or have deadlines or other pressing demands, we will do much better if we stretch, shake, shimmy, sashay or simply stroll on a frequent basis.

Ask yourself: If you get regular exercise, even when your schedule is packed to the gills, do you feel more stressed or do you feel better?  We may be tempted to skip yoga, dance, or our run because we are just “too busy,” but in reality, we need that outlet to counterbalance all the mental and spiritual work we are doing of late.

Remember, there is a lot of mental energy that must be moved through the physical form these days. These are potent, productive days. We can get a lot done, and stay in shape, healthy and in good spirits...so long as we tend to the needs of the blessed body.
