New Moon in Libra: Jupiter's Gifts

This Friday we celebrate the New Moon in the cardinal air sign of Libra, bringing our attention to justice, balance, fairness, and grace. At this time, the great benefactor Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, is just getting ramped up on his one-year journey through the sign of Libra (September 9, 2016 until October 10, 2017). Jupiter is closely conjunct this New Moon, unfurling his evolutionary message for all to receive.

Jupiter aka Jove aka Zeus at his best is our generous uncle who brings us big presents with his huge presence, his grand largesse. This means that wherever Libra is in our chart, we can get ready to expand, grow, receive gifts. Fantastic! Yet like most events astrological and cosmological, we must look out for signs and keep our antennae attuned. Remember: Luck is preparedness meets opportunity.

Jupiter is also known as the guru or teacher planet. The generous one often knows better than we do, what is good for us. So pay attention to what he is offering!

In the sign of Libra, the themes may have to do with updating our contracts, spoken and unspoken, written or unwritten. This could be our social contracts, our relationship with society or institutions. It could involve the way you do business, the way you express yourself with others, the way you relate to your lover, spouse, friend. Whatever is being highlighted, you won’t be able to ignore the push for growth, for learning, for – ahem – that five-letter word ‘change.’ Jupiter stretches us in order to evolve.

As a taster and teaser, I’ve put together a list of zodiac signs, along with a hint of how Jupiter’s expansion might stretch your life. You may wish to read your Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign. In fact, the Rising Sign will be the best indicator of this transit’s influence.

Since we are on the topic of stretching and expanding, as a treat I’m including a yoga pose (asana) that I intuitively sense will assist you as you grow into Jupiter’s current teachings for your sign. Try it out, and have fun contemplating your growth and evolution while you practice.

Jupiter in Libra: Yoga Asana by Zodiac Sign

Aries: You are expanding in the area of partnerships. New revisions, agreements are highlighted. Contracts are favored, legal disputes will be successful. Yoga asana: Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II)
Taurus: Jupiter wants you to expand your daily habits. Do more in your regular activities to stay in balance. Your health should thrive and your job should bring you happiness. Yoga asana: Tree Pose (Vrksasana)

Gemini: Play! Expand your berth (but not your girth!). Flirt! Go out to shows. Dress in costume. Have a great time. Throw romance in! Yoga asana: Bird of Paradise (Svarga Dvijasana)

Cancer: Focus on your home. Things are improving there. Good luck in real estate, rental agreements, roommates. Foundations. Yoga asana: Squat (Malasana)

Leo: Grow your local community. Talk to your neighbors. Be seen in your ‘hood. Make yourself known to folks. Get the word out to those in your daily life. Yoga asana: Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I)

Virgo: Expand your earning capacity! Build up your wealth and reserves. Money is good right now. Be grateful and don’t overspend. Yoga asana: Chair pose (Uktatasana)

Libra: You are making your presence known to the world and to your own self. Watch your waistline! Sometimes having Jupiter in your First House can mean that it is actually YOU that grows. Focus on the new you. Yoga asana: Easy pose (Sukhasana)

Scorpio: You are protected spiritually. Even when you don’t know what to do, you have a guardian angel or an aura of light surrounding you. Trust the process and let go. Yoga asana: Legs up the wall (Viparita Karani)

Sagittarius: Expand your network, grow your global community. Disseminate all the good wisdom you’ve stored up and connect to your friend base. The world needs to hear more of and from you. Yoga asana: Half-Moon Pose (Ardha Chandrasana)

Capricorn: Succeed. Attain your ambition through taking on more responsibility and a bigger role. Shine your light and take a big leap in your career. Yoga asana: Warrior III (Virabhadrasana II)
Aquarius: The world is looking to you as teacher and philosopher. Travel further and wider, break rules and teach us how to do the same. Yoga asana: Fierce Goddess Pose (Utkata Konasana)

Pisces: It’s time for a reinvention, rebirth and rising up from the ashes. Transformation is being supported right now. While you go through the metamorphosis, you will be shedding lots and lots of old skin. Yoga asana: Cobra pose (Bhujangasana)

If the pose offered is too advanced, feel free to find another one that expresses the qualities of Jupiter presented. Enjoy the play of the cosmos expressed on your yoga mat, and honor the guru within you!

Full Moon Eclipse in Aquarius: Your Future is Calling

Tomorrow, we have a Full Moon in the fixed air sign of Aquarius. Aquarius the Water Bearer is the sign of the future, of ideals, of humanity. It is buzzy, electric, visionary energy. Aquarius does not wait for the rest of the world to catch up; she blazes forward, trusting what she sees in entirety. A heralding voice of progress, the responsibility of Aquarius is to tell the rest of us what is coming down the pike. Even if it seems irrational, odd, strange, or whacko, the news is important, and if we pay attention to Aquarius’ original drumbeat, we will dance into the future with graceful aplomb.

This week’s Full Moon is indeed a Lunar Eclipse, which always makes me feel two things at once: 1. Nervous and 2. Excited. I get nervous because full moon eclipses have a huge buildup and often remove things from our lives, out of nowhere. Big surprise! The cosmos decides! Someone or something is not needed in our lives anymore and – whoop, there it went – that element is swooped away. I get excited because of the profound switch-up occurring on the cosmic chessboard. Like a Bishop traversing the diagonal or a Knight hopping and stealing a piece, an eclipse is like the hand of the Goddess, coming down and saying “All change!”

The game, after an eclipse, will look entirely different in some significant way. Sometimes, it feels like a wipe-out. But we must admit it’s the Universe’s way of keeping things very interesting. If we look close enough, we see that we are not individually responsible, we are not separate. There is an amalgamation of an infinite number of causes and effects – past, present, and future – that have conspired to this one pinpoint in time to make this event or change occur. Therefore, no need for guilt or shame or misplaced pride. In the midst of the events of an eclipse, we watch, we experience, we act, we react. Like a movie.

This Uranus-ruled eclipse could come through like a forest fire, a flash flood, a meteor shower. Any concept, idea, person or thing that is holding us back from shining our light will be plucked away.

Future Star Child

This lunar eclipse is a beautiful cosmic configuration with Aquarian air and Leo solar fire converging, creating simultaneous action and inspiration. It is mentally energizing and hyper-invigorating, to the point that it can feel overly stimulating, wildly intense. Aquarius – the future star child – reminds us to heed the soul’s calling. Events occur, seemingly from the outside, that appear to happen to you yet are simply necessary; this is a calling to ‘come home’ to your spirit.

The Aquarius part of your birth chart, or even having an Aquarius in your life, is a beacon, a way to tap into your inner integrity again and again. Represented by The Star card in the Tarot, the Water Bearer replenishes our visions and reminds us of our deepest universal callings. Aquarius reminds us we are made of stars. Twinkle, twinkle beautiful one! It is important to be on good terms with your spirit!

If you have the luxury of reading this forecast, you have the wherewithal, the resources, to free yourself, in a collaborate fashion, from the ties that trap, bind, smother, squelch that spirit. In fact, Aquarius says, you have a responsibility on a relative level to do so. In the absolute plane of Existence, it doesn’t matter what you do or where you go. But on the relative plane, your soul will shake, rattle and roll you over until you fess up, own up to your own sacred power and authority, and express your true calling.

If the eclipse comes through like a tornado, or a bolt of lightning, behold the truth! Clarity and calm lie in the “I” of the storm of your own inner knowing. How will you know what to “do” when or if the rug gets pulled out from under you? Drop in deeper; inner listening is vital. You may have to batten down the hatches to listen more closely. Even in the midst of sparkling summer sunshine, you may have to draw the blinds and hide for a day or three to HEAR your spirit.

What is that thump, thump, thump…? It is the beat of your own heart drum. What is that raging roar? It is the ocean of Existence, the wave of your soul pounding the surf, waking you up again and again to your True Nature.

Be raw, courageous, hold onto nothing. Not even your own past or future identity. If you step forward into the siren’s call of your soul, you will reclaim your voice. Feel that? That's the soul going for it, pushing you into the future, your purpose.

Trust, and walk through the stargate. Behold the portal of this full moon Aquarian eclipse. Your future is calling.

Fly High, Just Don’t Fry: Uranus Retrograde

Today, July 29, Uranus is stationing, turning retrograde for a five-month integration period. Uranus is the Great Awakener, the enlightenment planet, known for its disruptive, sudden qualities as well as innovation and liberation. Over the past months, we have all experienced its shocks and starts, and stretches to our consciousness on the personal and transpersonal levels. Sometimes we've been pulled to the point of feeling like we can’t possibly absorb any more change. Lucky for us, Uranus is toning down his high-voltage jolts, just long enough that we can catch our breath, and catch up to ourselves.

Uranus will be retrograde from July 29 until December 29. During this time, our progress will not be thwarted, no. But it will be assimilated. We need this time. The rate of change has sped up so fast, many of us have found it hard to catch our breath. This acceleration may have been felt internally as a quickening of consciousness, an anxious buzz, or rapid influx of ideas; or externally as huge leaps and bounds in life changes, or humanitarian efforts, or actual inventions. Or perhaps it’s just plain wakefulness – literally not being able to sleep! – or enlightened self-realization. It is all fine and dandy to be waking up… but we need time to smell the coffee.

Fly High, But Don’t Fry

We’ve been moving at mock speed. Lest we fry our nervous systems, we need time to integrate. We’ve been poked, prodded and placed into our new starring roles. Now, look around. Take stock. What are these new systems, anyway? What is this new wiring, this strange new voltage running through our bodies, our lives? From now through fall, we can get a little more accustomed to flying at this new altitude.

Take in the horizon before you, absorb the surroundings and meaningful details. Understand the intricate workings of this place and from this perspective. Catch your breath, just a little. Uranus is volatile and reactive, so do cool your jets. If we stretch too far too fast, we will burn out. So fly high, just don’t fry.

We’re in beta mode with many of these new starts. Yes, mistakes will be made, we will step on toes and stub our own on occasion. Learning is occurring. This is the embodiment part of the awakening process – the fine tuning, the rewiring of consciousness. Don’t push for brand new launches. Instead, work with what you’ve already got. You're at cruising altitude for a moment.

In yogic traditions, today’s Capricorn Full Moon is a celebration of ageless wisdom, known as “Guru Purnima” – Full Moon of the One Who Removes Darkness.” It is the lunation dedicated to our teachers, mentors, elders, sages, and spiritual masters – and for some of us, the Guru.

This is Wise Moon, signified by the reverent ruler of Capricorn, Saturn, who upholds That Which is Old, that which endures and is meaningful, including ancient texts, and traditions. Whether the path of jñāna (wisdom), bhakti (devotion), asana yoga, or deep communion with a Wise One, it’s a potent time to honor them, and give thanks.

At this Guru Purnima, we reflect on those people, places, and situations who remove darkness in our lives. Those who aid us profoundly on the journey, and awaken our consciousness. Those who stretch us to grow beyond that which we thought possible. Those who inspire us, counsel us, soothe us. Those who have traversed further afield in mind or miles, to bestow us with gifts brought home from the pilgrimage or voyage.

These are our Great Teachers embodied, pointing the way, prodding us to claim that timeless wisdom for ourselves...and make it our own.
