New Moon in Virgo: Purification By Fire

Virgin of Guadalupe
Tomorrow, September 17, we have a New Moon in the mutable earth sign of Virgo, representing purity. Nothing holds the Virgin – she is a woman unto Herself. As evolutionary astrologer Steven Forrest reminds us, Virgo is truly free, unbound by any earthly drama. And yet, She still lives on earth as the development of self and life continues to unfold. In the meantime, she purifies, serves and helps where she can.

Ashes to Ashes

A week ago, my Beloved and I took a much needed holiday up to Ashland, Oregon, where I’d lived for five years in my 20’s – a town of great healing, art, and coming of age for me personally and professionally.

We so looked forward to our five days at a retreat hotel, replete with in-room mineral bathtub, and a pool. I’d needed a break from the fire stew-pit of the High Sierras we’ve been living in for the past six weeks, ever since the first of the big fires lapped up to the edge of our little town, keeping us on evacuation alert.

So, yes, we looked forward to a poolside vacation in Ashland, where the air quality forecast was clear sailing. But the Goddess had other ideas.

At about 11am our first morning we were enjoying a hot tub soak in our room. I was chewing my way through Frank Herbert’s Dune, diving into spice, spaceworms and sci-fi when we heard people shouting and yelling in Spanish. I hopped out of the bath, looked out the front door to see the staff running, and saw a gigantic smoke plume tsunami heading our way, rising up and unfurling toward us at an alarming speed. “Grab your stuff, we have to get out NOW.” Keith leaped out of the tub, and with clothes (barely) on our backs, and keys, phone, purse – we ran to the car.

I’d thought for a split second – “Grab my Tarot cards? My night guard [for my teeth]?” Funny, the things you value when you can bring nothing. I then thought, “What are you doing Erin? Drop everything and get out NOW,” and left everything. In the parking lot, I marveled that a few of the other guests were dawdling – barely getting on the go.

Keith and I headed north on a frontage highway as sirens blared and cars began being diverted. Within a minute, the Interstate and that road itself were blocked and closed, meaning we would not have been able to move for the next 24 to 48 hours if we hadn’t acted so fast.

Having nowhere to go and our heads barely on straight, we headed north. Rattled, we remembered mention of a winery that a young woman mentioned to us the night before while dining outside eating Vietnamese pho. We needed a plan, any plan, so off to the vineyards we drove. There, a celestial angelic server tended to us and gave us a stiff pour of AlbariƱo while we collected our thoughts. “Let's get to the coast, we’ll be safer there at least.”

At the vineyards, pondering our next move

This was the day of the apocalyptic orange skies in the Bay Area – everything black as tar along the north coast as well. Safe, and simultaneously depressed and happy to stick our feet in the smoky ocean – for two days we ate bad diner food and huddled together in our gray, not-holiday motel digs until we could assess the damage back in Ashland.

Our hotel manager was great – staying in touch as the fires lapped against the road burning near the Inn and flattening 600-plus homes between Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford. No power or water, yet miraculously, our lodging was spared.

After two days, we decided to try to get back to retrieve our items and started driving north back to Oregon. We came to a roadblock – the very highway we'd come over on was now engulfed by yet another fire, so we turned around. A 2.5 hour trip turned into a 6.5 hour route back south, through Humboldt County, then east and up I-5 through Mount Shasta – a typically beautiful drive that has never been drearier. Poor majestic Mount Shasta, hidden behind a smokescreen, nowhere to be seen off the ashen highway.

Staying one night at an Ashland sister property while we fetched our things, it was beyond heartbreaking to hear of homes and families now in shelters, with many Latinx communities and small town haunts I loved burned to the ground. We were let through the police line to fetch our luggage and drove the weary hours home to California. Back in our mountains, we were grateful to arrive to safety, albeit with a local Air Quality Index of 485.

Just. Wow.

We spent the next couple of days – indoors of course – decompressing and in contemplation. What are we being shown, we asked the Divine. Clarity always arising… Remember

1. You will always know exactly what to do in the moment.

a.       we knew when to flee

b.       we knew where to drive

c.       we knew where to go next

2.  My work as a spiritual teacher, counselor, and intuitive is exactly what I am supposed to be focused on. I am here for you, clients, students, readers – individually and as a group. This is the best way for me to use my life force and it feels great. No stress, being of service in the Virgo-pure way, sitting in the flames with you.

3. See number one above, repeat.

Ashes to Ashes. Think of the sadhus in India – the naga babaspurified and covered in ash, with nothing. These holy men and women are raw, naked, and are closest to the earth, as the earth.

Fire purifies. Ash purifies. Symbolically, let it cleanse your heart. Let it point you to the Truth.

I do not wish these fires on anyone. I do not wish for other creatures to die, to lose their homes, to feel fear and pain. At the same time, I am completely aware that this is part of the Great Unfolding, and it is all happening as exactly as it is meant to.

You will be guided to make the changes, make the efforts to alter your reality and our collective reality in the way that that naturally arises for you – knowing that it is perfect exactly as it is.  And again, you will always know exactly what to do, in the moment. There is only the Here and Now. Presence.

In this time of the new moon, remember that Virgo is purity. She is held by Nothing. She wants for Nothing. And thus She has, and is, Everything.

Unto yourself, as the Self. You will always be okay no matter what.

Do you doubt?

Go deeper, go further.

Stay there. And purify.

Wings of Change

I was so happy when I came across these iridescent, luminous cloud wings on my early evening walk yesterday, for several reasons.

First, the smoke has temporarily cleared enough to see them. (We were on advised evacuation for almost a week due to our massive regional forest fire which lapped up against our tiny little Sierra town.)

Second, these wings of change heralded a shift in heavy energies. Indeed, last night I was awakened by strong winds (and dangerous lightning once again! ⚡) At 2:00 a.m. I dashed outside in my bathrobe to pull laundry off the clothesline, wind howling and lightning surging. Lying in bed afterwards, hearing the pitter-patter of raindrops, I was thrilled for the (albeit temporary) cleansing energy of water finally gracing us with Her presence.
šŸ’§
Third, I had just completed another enneagram seminar weekend as part becoming a certified Enneagram counselor and practitioner. So, seeing these "wings" made me very happy to honor my wings of 5 and 7 which, for those who know the language, obviously reveals me as a Six (counterphobic).
šŸ˜
The enneagram is a powerful tool I use to assist my clients and students to understand and face their own ego fixation, moving toward freedom and liberation embodied. I am excited to share this with you all moving forward.

May you be sane, serene, courageous in this Great Unfolding.

Love,

Erin

Fire in the Heart šŸ”„ New Moon in Leo

If you’ve been reading my articles, or had a session or attended a group with me over the past few months, you’ll note that I’ve often mentioned the incredible amount of HEAT on the planet right now. Mars’ long journey through the cardinal fire sign of Aries, due to a retrograde, lasts seven months, until the beginning of January 2021. Right now, this is being exacerbated due to a square to the prevailing ominousness of the Jupiter-Pluto-Saturn stellium in Capricorn that is raising hell with all structures, public health, political institutions, and control issues. Need I say more?

I’ve been talking about the heat, the fire, the kundalini shakti being raised all summer. I’ve suggested to my students and clients to stay ultra-aware of their energy field. To manage their internal energy systems with the keenest consciousness. To take responsibility for their own volatility, and tend carefully to what is needed internally and externally. I’ve discussed sex, food, cooling, electricity, anger, and family relations. I’ve advised exquisitely detailed listening to the body, mind, spirit. This is the way of responding and balance.

As always, and obviously now, we must listen to the finest points of what our souls are asking. We will always know exactly what to do, and when to do it, so long as we are in the present moment. If you are fretting about the future, or dwelling in the past, you are already long-gone, and you will not be able to make any decision with clarity and confidence. This is why I teach Freedom in the Eternal Now and Unshakeable Presence.

Your life is always here, here, here. Nowhere else. (If you need assistance to see through the illusion of future-tripping, or past-melancholy, consider coming to an Awakening Group spiritual talk on Thursday morning, 9am PT. Email me directly for details.) It is vital that you drop into the moment, and embodied presence, if you want to be at peace through this great Transformation.

Things are heating up and will continue to do so over the next several months. Where is the reprieve? It is in your own heart. The opportunity hidden in disastrous planetary, political, and viral upheaval is to bring you back to what is already here, inside of the Self. It is from this place that you are able to make the move you need to make, to take the action that is being provoked, poked, and pushed by Mars’ fire at the moment.

Allyson Grey, Jewel Net of Indra, 1988

At this week’s New Moon in Leo (Tuesday, August 18, 19:42 PT) the Sun and Moon are trining volcanic Mars, and there is a grand opportunity to make a superpowered leap into your next life circumstance. It is vital that you listen. There is always a window to jump through, a hole in the net, a portal. What is it that your fiery courageous heart is telling you? Now is the time to have 100% trust in the Self, and be carried into the next chapter. We cannot sit back and wallow, eating up only what we are being fed from the fear-based collective, no. Go beyond, to that place in your self that is ready to risk it all, to make a move even when it doesn’t make “sense.” Your very heart knows what I’m talking about. Pack light, and make the leap.

I love you,

Erin

The real world is beyond the mind's ken; we see it through the net of our desires, divided into pleasure and pain, right and wrong, inner and outer. To see the universe as it is, you must step beyond the net. It is not hard to do so, for the net is full of holes.

Wake Up and Use Your Anger!

Hello friends! How's your anger?

Remember, there is an incredible amount of energy on the planet right now. It can show up as a rock in the belly until it starts to move. Once it starts to move, you might feel afraid of the unfamiliarity as it can show up as anger. It is important not to hold it back. This is energy you can’t try to meditate away, or go into a cave, or numb out with Netflix. It is here for a reason. It is here to help you make the necessary changes in your life.

First, feel it, get in touch with the energy sans story. It’s pure energy. You might first identify it as anxiety. It can be a vibration. You may also feel it in the jaw, and maybe the neck or shoulders. It can show up as disrupted sleep, or even exhaustion.

Yes, ultimately it is all energy; yet it wants to be acknowledged! It needs to be felt – consciously.

Once you’re in touch with the physical energy, start writing. Start talking to a safe other if you’re not much of a journaler. It’s time for you to start unpacking who or what you are angry about; use free association, brainstorming until you hit the core. Ultimately, this is not about blaming another person, place, or situation. It’s about the CLARITY that anger offers, so that you can start to pinpoint exactly what needs to happen next.

Angry art performance, 2005

It might take you a few hours or even a few days to narrow it down. Anger is often a sign that a big BOUNDARY needs to be put into place. A clear NO wants to come forward. It may also be a clue that you NEED SOMETHING. You will get honest with yourself and others about that certain thing that you need to bring into your life. This is how we make effective, non-shaming REQUESTS. A clear request will be usually be fulfilled; a demand is often met with resistance.

I am bringing this up to remove all shame and guilt around the honest, necessary, and powerful fuel that anger brings. Centered usually in the gut, and the solar plexus, the color is orange, red, yellow. Mars is in Aries right now – and we have been experiencing this build-up of raw fuel for the past month. It’s going to take a few more months to digest and integrate it all, so get used to the process.

We don’t need to fear anger. We are not going to harm self or another once we are conscious of what needs to happen next. Anger is information. While it can be volatile, it does not necessitate ignorant or unnecessary damage. No need to fear the truth.

Remember, FEEL the FUEL. Locate it in the body. Then, work with your words, your voice, your artistic self-expression, your body to get CLEAR on WHAT needs to happen next. Once you identify the direction this rocket ship needs to be pointed, you will come to realize that you are 100% EFFECTIVE and UNSTOPPABLE.

No one can argue with the Truth. It’s what’s clear, and it’s what’s here.

Freedom is here and now.

Awakening is the end of suffering - the end of identification.

This is liberation. Unconditional peace. Never not here.

“Erin holds a sacred container for the Truth where no question, thought or experience is off limits. Through the transmission of non-dual teachings, I'm finally accessing the deeper knowing that doesn't fall away dependent on circumstances or events. When the bottom falls out, these teachings remain. Through satsang with Erin, I have cultivated an incredible capacity to hold the Truth as it is that has allowed for deep peace and freedom, especially during these times.” ~ K.C.

"I deeply appreciate the opportunity to be in satsang with Erin.  Doing so helps me step away from the unfolding national and global dramas.  I leave satsang feeling more at peace, with a calmer nervous system, and a better understanding of myself and others as expressions of pure consciousness." ~ A.M.

Let Freedom Ring: Full Moon in Capricorn

Beloved friends, clients, readers,

Tonight we honor the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Capricorn. This full moon of July is celebrated in India as Guru Purnima, wherein we honor our greatest spiritual teachers. While I can't physically travel to Mumbai this year, I am tuning in virtually with my friends there to give thanks to my advaita (non-duality) Teacher, Ramesh Balsekar, who left the body in 2009.

How are your teachers showing up in your life today? Whether they are with you in body or spirit, their voices and influence are surely reverberating in your steps. When we have a relationship based on raw truth and honest development, sometimes the teachings come in blissful grace, and sometimes they come in hard knocks and rough challenges. But if we look closely, we can feel also the protection of the teacher and the teachings with us, even in the worst situations. We are surrounded with Love and Grace.

Some folks consider Nature to be their greatest teacher. Some, a parent or older friend, a mentor, or relative. Others have more pointed relationships with a person or lineage. Ultimately, the guru-teacher lives within as The Self, and that realization is Liberation. All That Is. Oneness.

It has never been more obvious in these chaotic and confusing unfolding events of 2020. True freedom is only in present time. We must cling to our sword of truth, our sheer clarity of what is Here, in the moment, happening now. A teacher may help you understand that all you need to know, all you need to own, is directly in front of you, and within you. You are not separate from All That Is. A teacher may help redirect you to What Is. A teacher may help you see through the illusions that create unneeded suffering.

And, it is not a path for the meek. It takes courage and a determination to come out of the hiding, to be freed from the excruciating contortion of ego-identification. With grace, we receive the clearest, no-compromising pointers to living in Reality.

Wishing you all a beautiful Independence Day, July 4.
Let freedom ring. May you be free from suffering.
With love,
Erin

Summer, Serenity, and the Beauty of Inanimate Objects

“Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.”  ~ Albert Einstein
Hello Beloveds,

With the recent Summer Solstice and New Moon Eclipse in Cancer, we have entered the time when the solar life force is the strongest in the Northern Hemisphere. With so much intensity on the planet, it’s critically important to notice what helps you feel in alignment. If you’re feeling out of sync, off-kilter, confused or garbled, it might be a sign that you are not living in a way that is congruent with your soul, your authentic self.

When we live in accordance with our True Nature, we feel good. We feel good even when we feel “bad.” There is a residing peace and contentment, daresay happiness or even joy, underneath even the so-called “negative” emotions. When we are seated in our self, we experience grief, anger, sorrow, loss, even frustration, with an ease that permeates all. There is a knowing, a holding, a basic trust that we are exactly where we need to be.

Think about it. Think about times when you’ve felt the blood-boiling of rage, or the bone-core-barrenness of deep grief, and you’ve just flat out felt good about it. This is because it is TRUE. It is real, it is here, and it is the authentic You.

When you’re living out of alignment with True Nature, even that which is supposed to feel good has an edginess to it. This is a sign you’re coming from ego, from separation from Source. You’re living from an idea that this is what is supposed to be happening, this what you are supposed to be doing. But it’s an idea. It’s not reality.

Reality is always easeful. It is always here. It is the place of rest, no matter what is unfolding.

The Beauty of Inanimate Objects

In summer, as in all seasons, we are urged to listen to the land. Listen to the wind, the trees, the flowers, the clouds. Listen to the rivers, the lakes, the sky. Listen, and you shall know exactly what is needed and called for in each and every moment.

These days, I’m reminded of the beauty of inanimate objects, not just of those found in nature, but also things human-crafted, human-made. I love that in most other languages besides English, we have feminine, masculine, neutral articles (e.g. German, der/die/das; French, le/la; Spanish, el/la, etc.) to indicate the gender of an object. We refer to objects as “she” or “he” and the whole object comes alive even more. “Der Zug,” or “the train” in German gives us the impression of a mighty creature huffing and puffing up the hill as we say, “there he goes! Watch him climb!” “Die Blume,” or “the flower” becomes She. “Look how beautiful She is!” as we gaze at the perfect rose.

Even the most unlikely candidates become alive through hints in language. This is a great pointer to the fact that All is Consciousness. Recognizing the Consciousness and beauty inherent in inanimate objects, we find aliveness, alertness, consciousness and story even in a hayfield. Above and below are photographs I took last week of two pastures and their recently collected haystacks and hayrolls. We can have an entire conversation with a hayfield when we really look. I am enamored with their beauty.

Aliveness is everywhere…

The other morning, my Beloved and I were driving across the valley and we had to slow to a stop as the most beautiful pronghorn antelope was standing right before our vehicle. Gorgeous markings shone vividly on her face, as die Antilope stared directly at us. She was looking for an opening to the prairie but was blocked by the cattle fence. Luckily, no cars were coming behind us, so we were able to sit and wait for her to find an opening in the fence. After a moment, she dove into a small opening in the barbed wire and pranced quickly across the cowfields, off into the sunset plains. Free again!

The Consciousness present in this animal was clear as a bell, as we looked directly into each other’s eyes.
We instinctively and collectively know there is intelligence present as we anthropomorphize animals and inanimate objects in Pixar, Disney, graphic novels, fairy tales. A teapot transforms into a friendly trickster, a pelican embodies the wise old man, a sea turtle a surf bum.

Non-humans are smart, flawed, perfectly imperfect, and just as conscious as we humans. Any animal lover will know that True Love is there and a connection is made, eye-to-eye, when one truly looks. This goes for trees, rivers, lakes and streams as well. Who’s to say that the Love is not reciprocated? Perhaps we experiment with extending this idea to every apparent separate object, every inextricable part of the whole.

Consciousness is everywhere. May joy and aliveness fill you as summer reveals its splendor and gifts!

With love,

Erin
