Astro-Tarot Forecast by Erin Reese ~ December 2014

Dear Friends:
As we come to the close of our year, the darker days offer ample time to self-reflect and to dream of what might come in 2015. Longer sleeps nourish our minds and bodies, and holiday festivities with friends and family warm our hearts. The upcoming Winter Solstice promises a renewed spark with the return of the light. We only have a few weeks left of the darkest, most intense introspective days, so do enjoy them!

Now, let’s see how December 2014 is lining up for you. Be sure to read your Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign for best results!

With love and gratitude,
Erin

Astro-Tarot Forecast by Erin Reese ~ December 2014

ARIES: Page of Cups
Ram, you need some carefree “you” time! At some point during the month of December, you’ll have a chance to indulge yourself, to give in to your sweetest desires and completely forego any cares or concerns about others’ needs for a while. Take advantage of it. The little kid inside of you is asking for your attention, so let him or her tell you exactly what she needs to be happy. Take a break and enjoy the flow. Celebrate your senses. December Theme for Aries: Pleasure Principle

TAURUS: Ten of Swords
Something in your life is going through its final phases of passing away. You may have to make a sort of a sacrifice so that you can get on with your life and your bigger purpose in the world. Allow this transition to happen. You will then be able to access a dawning of fresh insight and new emotional energy. Whatever old habits, ideas, concepts or life setups you’ve been clinging to, realize that it’s only your ego doing the holding on. Let go of the rope and be free. December Theme for Taurus: Letting Go

GEMINI: Ace of Wands
Passion, sexuality, creative force – this is bound to be an active month for the Twins! A new idea is born. It could be a literal baby or a new plan. The egg is hatched, the seed cracks open and all your Gemini potentiality roars to the surface. Write! Speak! Talk! Communicate, and declare yourself BIG TIME to the world. This is not a time to play small. You will experience a rebirth of spirit during the Solstice so announce your intentions in a ritual with yourself or others. Whatever you plant this Solstice will be fully ablaze by springtime. December Theme for Gemini: Energy Burst

CANCER: Six of Cups
Cancer, this is not a good month for a diet. I repeat, this is not a good month for a diet, or for any other disciplines that might restrict your experience of pleasure and fun. Give in to your cravings sensually (within a wee bit of reason – you don’t want to hit the point of diminishing returns). Dance, dine, go to a spa over a long weekend. Even sadness or nostalgia can feel good in December if you give in to the wave of emotional energy available to you now. Connecting with old friends can feel bountiful, rich. You’re in for a high all month. December Theme for Cancer: Ride the Wave

LEO: Four of Swords
Leo, you always meet obligations with family and loved ones. You’re loyal and usually love socializing. But there will be a point this month that you hit a wall and you feel a need to go to your room. When holidays feel like holy-daze, be the first to walk away and take a time out. Watch for any fever pitch or arguments or dramas rearing their head. Get your own head on straight, and balance out before attempting to work it out with others. Monitor yourself. December Theme for Leo: A Little Retreat

VIRGO: The Moon - XVIII
Sleep, Virgo, sleep.  You’ve always got more than your fair share of work and activity on your plate, and you enjoy the busy-ness of everyday life – mostly. But when the day is done and or you have a few days off, no one is going to judge you for putting on your PJ’s or sweats and hitting the hay. Watch a bunch of movies, read some great books. Most important are the dreams you will receive this month. Make like a bear and hibernate. December theme for Virgo:  Dream a Little Dream

LIBRA: The Hermit - IX
“Oh no! Not the Hermit,” says we-oriented Libra. “I can’t be alone!” Well, dear Libra love, you can, and you need to be solo occasionally. This month beckons you to experience a chunk of solitude. Welcome it! Introspection doesn’t have to be loneliness. It is aloneness and you get to deepen your relationship with Self. Go deeper into your art or writing, use the Tarot or the I Ching to self reflect. Perhaps your lover or friends are off traveling or otherwise not available. Use this time to re-energize. December is a crossroads month for you and you can use this period of self study to examine all the choices before you for 2015. December theme for Libra: Introspection

SCORPIO: Four of Cups
At a few key points this month, Scorp, you’re likely to feel uncertain about the direction life has taken.  Some may even feel utterly confused about where they’re being led. You will need to strip down all the parts of personality and ego barriers that keep you from seeing the truth of your situation so that you can make a clean start in 2015. A reevaluation is necessary for a deeper healing. Let yourself be creative and explore new alternatives. Think outside of the box instead of revisiting the same old, same old solutions. December theme for Scorpio: Make a Clean Start

SAGITTARIUS: King of Cups
Focus, Sag, focus. You may need to sacrifice some of your personal feelings about tasks at hand in order to get the job done. It’s okay to put your game face on sometimes so that you can complete all you need to in work or relationships. There’s a spiritual or greater purpose to your strategy, a method to the madness. You won’t get carried away by fleeting emotions this month, and the results will be good for it. December theme for Sagittarius: Undistracted

CAPRICORN: Wheel of Fortune - X
First of all, this is a very good month for Cappy to have an astrological reading, especially since your own personal New Year is around the corner. Secondly, you are being swept into prominence in some way in your life. A wish, a desire you’ve held dear for a long time is going to manifest this December. Did you remember to ask Father Christmas for that gift? A blessing is en route and if you’re not sure what is about to light up for you, have a chat with your local astrologer. December theme for Capricorn: Recognition

AQUARIUS: Two of Swords
Yoga, Water Bearer, Yoga. You need it! Friend Aquarius, just because it’s bad weather doesn’t mean your body needs to atrophy. Right now, keep your spine flexible, your chi and prana flowing and your brain balanced by joining a yoga studio (most have great introductory offers). Or amp up your home practice. Try tree poses and other balancing acts. You can also practice Tai Chi, basic stretching, conscious movement or dance, Chi Gung and body-based dynamic meditations. Deep breathing is needed for the body-mind connection to work optimally. You’re on a precipice for 2015 and you need grounding and inner privacy, so take them.  December theme for Aquarius: Mind-Body Balance

PISCES: Seven of Swords
Pisces the Fish doesn’t usually opt to use mental strategy in relationships, preferring to rely instead on sensitivity, intuition, and feelings. Yet, some situations this month will require stealth and maneuvering on a mental level. Be aware of who is playing what game and choose your words and actions carefully. Maybe you need to hold back a bit and not put all your cards on the table quite yet. Outsmart your opponent or outsmart yourself. People are being human and they have foibles and faults. Use discretion and you’ll be fine. December theme for Pisces: Discernment

New Moon in Sagittarius: The Meaning of Life

This November 22, we have a New Moon in the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius. It’s time to beat our vision quest drum again, conjuring up that which gives us juice, zest, vigor to keep on keepin' on, in cold times and hard times, sunshine and rain, austerity and wealth.

Sagittarius is the sign of the spirit, and heaven knows we all need a reason to believe in something. What lights our inner fire? It may be a passion, a song, a dance, an archetype living within us that always knows how to put on a knapsack and hit the road to find ourselves again. It may be a simple jaunt to the local café, it may be a road trip or a year getting lost in the jungles. We need our gypsy souls rocked. We need campfires and stargazing, heady debates and poetry slams. We need a little bit 'o raucous and a pinch of hedonism from time to time. We need contemplative comediennes, bawdy storytellers and laughter 'til our sides split. We need the Higher Mindedness of the Archer.

The unexamined life is not worth living. ~ Socrates

As I sit in one of my favorite international coffee houses, Caffe Trieste, writing this forecast, I look around and take in the essence of Sagittarius. There's a plethora of gypsies, writers, foreigners, travelers, artists and musicians taking in their afternoon coffee and pastries. A random mix of Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Zeppelin and my favorite Stones’ Sticky Fingers plays on the sound system. The smell of extra strong espresso wafts through the air, along with calzones and an occasional hint of wine or beer from those getting a head start on happy hour. An abstract, multi-colored wall mural of Italy's unmistakable boot makes a striking backdrop behind a professorial looking man with neat white hair in a ponytail, topped off with a black beret and a taupe cardigan. He’s devouring The New York Times and a croissant with gusto.

All in all, the setting is perfect. I’ve got that Travelin’ Feelin’, mixed in with higher education aspirations. No doubt, we’re settling into Sagittarius’ scene, where philosophers, explorers, educators, gypsies, wanderers and pontificators all writhe together in a wonderful soup cauldron, brewing up some semblance of The Meaning of Life recipe. As much as we need our bellies nourished, our minds need sustenance and our brains need to chew, too.

At this time of the New Moon in Sagittarius, carrying us through Thanksgiving and bolstering our spirit for the season, we can make it a point to reconnect to the philosopher and seeker within, and the part of us that remembers that great Tolkien line, “Not all who wander are lost.” Make an inward or outward journey. Button up your overcoat, throw a copy of Leaves of Grass in your bag and take a little trip. Need to stay close to home? Stoke the fireplace, pour yourself a cuppa and kick back with a few friends to contemplate what it’s all about. Let your spirit fly.

Cheers, Global Family!

Love and thanks,

Erin

Astro-Tarot Forecast by Erin Reese ~ November 2014

ARIES: Strength - VIII
Aries, you’re in a good setup as you prepare to enter the holy-day season. Your state of mind is strong and you are secure, grounded and focused. You’re being asked to remember your non-human guides, spirits and helpers. These can be trees and forests, mountains and rivers. Or they can be animal allies, big and small. Look to the birds, especially hawks, owls and eagles, and listen to the messages of your feathered friends. Listen to your cats and dogs and other pets, too. You may have a special visitation this month from an animal ally. Magic is afoot for Aries this month so embrace it and let your creative self manifest what it needs.  November Theme for Aries: Gather your allies.

TAURUS: Justice - XI
Things are finally setting themselves right in your realm, Taurus. Perhaps you’ve made up with a friend or family member; perhaps you’ve settled a contract or lawsuit. Maybe an old debt is being repaid. Whatever it is, November is a month for Taurus to get back into balance after accepting your role and responsibility in some matter of significance. You are supported by the earth element in all your endeavors. P.S. Don’t forget your yoga or movement practice. Even one posture a day can help your brain hemispheres balance out! November Theme for Taurus: Harmony is restored.

GEMINI: The Fool - 0
Play, Gemini! Be free this November. You do not need to be uber-sophisticated in your mind and actions all the time. Lighten up, lay down your workload, and have a few laughs. Trust that all processes are working fine and get out of the way of the cosmos doing their job. Be willing to follow all whims and fancies. Your heavy state of mind needs a break. Have fun! November Theme for Gemini: Drop the burden.

CANCER: Queen of Wands
Whether you’re working your Cancerian magic in the kitchen, the bedroom or the boardroom this month, you need only notice how much talent and creativity you have running through you! As long as you do not attach personal pride to this power and alchemical talent you have, the Universe will reward you with more and more of it. It’s a paradox. Now you can channel intensity and focus on your pet projects for the highest good of all. A potent month for the Crab. November Theme for Cancer: Work your magic.

LEO: Four of Wands
Are you ready to host a holiday affair or be the special guest at someone else’s gala event? November starts the festive season and it looks like you have a ton to be grateful for, so celebrate it wholeheartedly with others. Get in tune with your joie de vivre and fun vibe. Deck the halls early. You of all signs know how to party heart-y. November Theme for Leo: Belle or beau of the ball.

VIRGO: Judgement - XX
When Judgement Day visits Virgo this month, it means you’re getting upgraded to New Life 3.0. It’s a time to go into a deeper level of self-acceptance that is taking root in your psyche. As this helps you love yourself more, it reflects well on your relationship with friends, lovers, work-mates – everyone! Use this enlightened life force pulsing through you to contribute to the world in some way, shape or form. It’s your calling. November theme for Virgo: A new lease on life.

LIBRA: Four of Swords
This card reminds Libra to take a structured time out this month. Whether it’s a few months break you need, or just a few minutes, you need time to withdraw, to be alone and to think about things. Cleanse your mind and energy field. Heal and renew yourself. Your body, mind and spirit need it. You will have a more social busy period again, don’t worry. But you’ll have a much better state of mind if you learn to take retreat without resistance. November theme for Libra: Take a breather.

SCORPIO: Eight of Pentacles
Be patient, Scorp, and know that all of the seeds you’ve planted this year are growing firmly and healthily. They just need a little more time to mature. You’re about two-thirds of the way there. Don’t try to harvest too early. The waiting game is crucial. Remember that just because the fruits aren’t visible yet, so much is happening below the surface. November theme for Scorpio: Patience is a virtue.

SAGITTARIUS: Queen of Cups
Have you connected to your mother lately? This is a card of divine motherly love, so even if you aren’t close to your biological mum, you can be kind and gentle to the nurturer within you. If you push life too hard without allowing imagination, compassion and sensitivity their due, you might get confused or upset. Remember to have a light touch toward yourself and others this month. Forgiveness is a theme. November theme for Sagittarius: Gentle mothering spirit.

CAPRICORN: Eight of Wands
Take a risk this month, Cappy, especially if you’ve been feeling like things have gotten stale. If you ever want to know the truth of who you are today, awaken the personality by putting yourself in totally fresh situations, schedules, and scenarios. Move your mind and stimulate your spirit with fresh ideas. Mix it up and trust that even if it’s different and strange, you’re getting stimulated for all the right reasons. November theme for Capricorn: Stirring up the pot.

AQUARIUS: Four of Cups
Some Water Bearers may feel a calling to step away from the fray this month, just at the time when the rest of the world starts getting crazy busy for the holidays. Listen to that tug. While you can surely dip into the social stream, Aquarius often needs time apart to check into inner consciousness and rebalance. How do you really feel these days, and what do you need to bring into being? Remember, you’re a Future Messenger, and you need to set your self apart from the crowd at times to refresh and get clear on what you’re downloading for the planet. November theme for Aquarius: Moments of separateness.

PISCES: Two of Cups

For some time now, you’ve been contemplating a union, whether love or business or professional consultation. You will do well this month to think not so much in terms of “me” alone, but rather as a “you and me” – a “we”! You need another person to mirror you now, Fish. It’s a way of balancing you out emotionally. Notice how special others in your world give you a newfound perspective. You are reintegrating two parts of your soul. November theme for Pisces: Two is better than one.

Full Moon in Taurus: Building Security

Today, November 6, we have a Full Moon in the fixed earth sign of Taurus. During this lunation, we are reminded it’s not just what we want in life that makes us happy; it’s what we NEED that enables us to fulfill our deepest longings and to feel  that earthy sense of calm.

Taurus the Bull teaches us that our peace of mind depends upon having and maintaining that which we VALUE. These could be actual material possessions such as a good computer, a home you own, a reliable car (remember the Ford Taurus?), top-notch sporting goods, or sturdy furniture. And, these values could be abstract ones that we cultivate, slowly and surely, over time. Good health is a perfect example.

How do we keep and maintain “abstract values”? We consistently INVEST our life force into them – time, money, energy, vitality – into them. Consider a few scenarios:
  • You may not always like to be around certain family members, yet you know somehow it’s good for you to cultivate your roots and tribal belonging. So, you suck it up and make your appearance at the holidays as a way of nurturing those bonds over time.
  • You come to realize that professional growth means more than just how much you earn: you also need to learn. So, in order to keep your brain happy, you sign up for a class at your local community college, or go back for that advanced degree you’ve always thought about getting.
  • You know that ample time spent in Nature feeds your soul, relaxes your nervous system, and provides healthy stimulation. So, you start a habit of booking a semi-annual backpacking trip or outing to Yosemite AND get it secured on the calendar far in advance. You guard that date.
  • You’ve learned that longevity in partnership is not to be taken for granted. It requires commitment – a willingness to work through the hard stuff. You forego an old pattern of disposable relationships and online dating in order to invest in one special person. You realize that it won’t be perfect overnight and that it takes time to trust deeply.
Starting to get the picture? Taurean building takes time, commitment, and durability.

Work that Spending Plan

This Full Moon is square Jupiter in Leo and opposing Saturn in Scorpio. Jupiter in Leo can be showy and sometimes tends to be a big spender in order to impress or entertain oneself or others. Full Moon in Taurus only wants us to feel comfortable, secure, nourished. Saturn in Scorpio challenges us to consider the needs of the other in our most intertwined relationships, no matter how uncomfortable. While these planets are in a challenging position to each other, there may be discussions of “how much is enough?” and “how do we meet both of our needs?” For example, you might want to fly to Hawaii for Thanksgiving, but your partner says airfares are too high, so let’s stay closer to home and save our hard-earned money. You’ll have to come up with a creative solution that meets both the budgetary needs and the urge to splurge on fun.

Slow and Sure Wins the Race

Building security is the theme. How do we prepare for the future in a way that honors our values and needs in the present? One of the ways is to move slowly. Realize that long-term thinking plays a part. Think about how your actions will affect your world six months from now, six years from now, three decades from now.  You’re here on Planet Earth for the long haul, after all.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign, so we know that it’s got to be solid. The Taj Mahal wasn’t built in a day (it actually took 22 years)! So even if we’re not aiming to create one of the Seven Wonders of the World, we are meant to keep an eye on the prize. Make your life an act of beauty, a work of art, and take the time you need to invest, little by little. You’ll get there.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
~Lao Tzu

Wishing you a nourishing Full Moon!
Love,
Erin

New Moon in Scorpio: Rebirthing the Soul

Today, October 23, we have a New Moon in the fixed water sign of Scorpio, the sign that lives life closest to the bone. This New Moon is an evolutionary-toned partial solar eclipse. The Sun, Moon, and Venus the goddess of love are all packed together at zero degrees - as of today, these three are just squeaking into their new sign of Scorpio. Why is this significant? Zero degrees of planets often herald the beginning of important life chapters; things that last. Often, life's new beginnings come with a significant ending - a death. Appropriate, given Scorpio's ruling planet, Pluto, is the lord of birth, death, and rebirth.

As we prepare to enter the colder months of the year and honor the dead (Dio de Los Muertos/Samhain and Halloween), it’s a good time to reflect on our own mortality. The reality of the short time we have here can be a shock when we really contemplate it (I’m meant to do ALL THIS in such a short life?), but it can also give us courage to commit and therefore evolve. We may draw death closer as an ally.

One of my favorite quotes from my book, The Adventures of Bindi Girl: Diving Deep Into the Heart of India comes from a chapter called "Me, Myself, and Mind" describing a Buddhist teaching learned at a Tibetan monastery: “If today is the day I am going to die, how do I wish to live?”

It’s a great equalizer, this question. When we contemplate our own mortality – not to be confused with morbidity! – it makes decisions much easier. Paradoxically, we draw life closer. In our heart of hearts, we ask ourselves the tough questions:
  • Given my limited time on earth, is this honestly the way I want to live?
  • Do I really want to get married to this person?
  • Do I truly want to have a child?
  • Do I truly want to continue this profession or start a new one?
  • Do I need my aging parent to live with us?
  • Do I need to dive off X cliff?
In those lifespan decades we can count on two hands, we get to experience the gamut of life, death, and rebirth - and all the resultant ups, downs, and all-arounds that go with those major transitions. I believe that this Scorpio New Moon is going to reveal to us the beginning of our next major life chapter, and it’s not going to be superficial. Scorpio is anything but shallow. It will show us where our deepest, rawest, primal self resides.

HEAD MEETS HEART

The goddess asteroid of wisdom, Pallas Athena, is at 1-degree Scorpio, conjunct this New Moon. We are meant to express, feel, enjoy, and think deeply - all at once. Feels a bit overwhelming? Welcome to Scorpio. If you were single before, perhaps you’re getting committed, truly mating for the first time. Maybe you're coming to a divorce finalization that will liberate you both. If you’ve been taking care of an aging parent it could be nearing the time for them to cross over. You will feel all the love in your heart for this process, and you will also have the clarity to make important decisions at the same time (Pallas). You can use your head and your heart. You can feel, and you can think straight. The only thing you won’t be able to do is be superficial. No wishy-washy wobbling here. Scorpio likes things intense, deep, and thorough. Decisive and incisive, that's the way.

Art is featured here, too, with the prominence of lady Venus conjunct the New Moon. Scorpio art loves regeneration. Themes of the phoenix rising from the ashes, or people overcoming death or life-threatening illnesses could be prominent. It can also be a time to face addiction, a power struggle, or thoroughly cleanse a facet of the body. Venus in Scorpio is primal: healing sex, deep intimacy, and magic.

MERCURY IS STILL CRANKY

Mercury in Libra is still retrograde until October 25 AND lies in a tough t-square to Pluto and Uranus. Ouch. Even though we are tempted to finalize agreements, as Mercury is in the contractual, negotiating sign of the Scales of Justice, it is not – I repeat, NOT – a good time to sign on the dotted line. If possible, wait until November 1. Things are simply too unstable still – too many challenges to ferret out. Unpredictable individuals (Uranus in Aries) and boards of authority (Pluto in Capricorn) may oppose your efforts and time can be wasted trying to fit square pegs in round holes. Relax and don’t get your knickers in a bunch: all will be well if you can just hang on a week or two. Breathe, be patient, and let the universe put the right players and pieces into place. With the Moon’s North Node also in Libra conjunct Mercury, rest assured there is MOVEMENT FORWARD into healthy commitment and settlements – and we should keep our eyes on that prize – it’s just not time to finalize.

ON BEING SCORPIO…

Scorpio is a fixed sign. You can read that as ‘stubborn,’ and unchangeable unless it’s really the time to change, and then it’s nothing less than ultimate transformation. If you want something to get done, and get done thoroughly, give it to Scorpio.

Scorpio has three symbols, from lower to higher consciousness: the scorpion, the snake, and the phoenix. I like to call Scorpio the “Serpent Eagle,” integrating right use of kundalini shakti power along with the flight of the reborn phoenix, coming out of the ashes. You will always survive, and you can eat any poison of life and transform it to nectar. That’s the highest vibration of the fixed water sign of Scorpio.
